Day 13: Cleves to Cedarville

The Ohio To Erie Trail

Today started off with breakfast from my hosts from last night. I had a great nights sleep despite some significant rainfall throughout the night. I got everything picked up and ready to go, and Michele was willing to give me a ride to the trail so I wouldn’t have to ride on the roads to get there! She then drove a couple miles ahead without me knowing and snapped some photos!

Me, surprised to see Michele!

I grabbed lunch at a restaurant just off the trail, and it started to rain again. I thought that I had waited it out by the time I finished eating, but it came back after I got back on the bike. It only rained for 30 minutes or so, but it was enough to get everything pretty wet. But at least I was on a paved surface with no cars! The Ohio to Erie has been even better than the Katy Trail so far. Although, it’s also been more busy. I took a fairly relaxed pace for a good chunk of the day, since I was going to end up farther than expected due to the ride in the morning, and decided to camp just outside of Cedarville. There were no Warmshowers hosts or campgrounds around so I just pitched my tent off the side of the trail!

View from my campsite!

It seems to be a decent spot, but I’m worried about rain in the morning. I’m going to try to get to bed early and get moving quick in the AM to beat it, but it already has a 40% chance at 7AM and I’m sure it will be sooner than that. Just crossing my fingers I don’t have to pack a wet tent tomorrow! Either way, I’ll have a nice place to stay tomorrow night, so I’m excited about that. Here’s to more great miles on the Ohio to Erie Trail!

Today's ride: 51 miles (82 km)
Total: 703 miles (1,131 km)
