Day 12: Connersville, IN to Cleves, OH
Hi Ohio!
I was slow to get up today. I knew I didn’t have as many miles to get down, so I lounged a little bit around the campground.
Once I got around to riding, it wasn’t an easy day. I had a lot of climbing to do. After an hour and a half, I had climbed 800 feet. Luckily, it was mostly paved backroads, the staple of Illinois and Indiana. There was nowhere to stop in the middle of the day for lunch, so I had to eat a sandwich when I left and I snacked on cliff bars throughout the journey. The middle of the ride was fairly flat and uneventful. Fields, forests, and more of the same of what I’ve seen for a while. Eventually I crossed the border into Ohio and I knew I was close to my stop for the night. But I had one problem. I had one last 300 foot climb to get to my hosts home. It was a grueling final 15 minutes, but I eventually made it. Michele, Dan, and Ed were fantastic. They made spaghetti and meat sauce with garlic bread and salad.
It really was a dream come true for my taste buds. And my body is probably going to love this energy tomorrow. Ed checked my route and it seemed to be up to his standards, so it’s good enough for me! I had a fantastic conversation with them about many a topics and got to see Michele’s bike tour map!

But now it’s bed time. I still have a bit of a ways before I get to the Ohio to Erie Trail tomorrow. But things are great tonight!
