Day 7 A sabbath in Sisters

“You have six days each week for your ordinary work,”
Exodus 20:9 NLT
We usually take a rest day every 7 to 8 days. And Sisters was the perfect place to observe it. I tried sleeping in but the body and mind wanted to get up, but I forced myself to stay in bed until 0600hrs. Then I made a cup of coffee and had a little quiet time to myself, read a bit and made another cup followed by an espresso from the lobby after 7.
We each had some chores to do. Rhonda worked on laundry and I’ll let her share that adventure. I worked on some bike maintenance; minor adjustments and lubed the chains. Later after visiting “Blazin’ Saddles” bike shop I would install a new rear light after mine broke off on top of McKenzie Pass. Blazin’ Saddles is one of those bike shops you just have to visit.
We also found a Bi Mart and Dollar General for some incidentals. This was the first ever Dollar General that broke the mold. Every other one in the whole country looks the same, even down to the clerks. I swear Stephen King could write a story. It’s just plain spooky.
Later we met Reba, a friend of ours from Texas who is visiting her son in Bend. We had a great lunch and visit at Luckey’s Woodsman followed by a coffee at Sisters Coffee Company, another perennial favorite.
Now we are back in our room folding clothes, packing and resting.
Since I was working on the bikes I could give you tech nerds a peek at our gear. We both ride Salsa Cutthroats with Shimano 2X mechanical GRX groupsets. It keeps the spare parts to a minimum. For touring we attach Salsa racks front and rear to attach panniers. We roll with Rene Herse Endurance tires set up tubeless using Silca’s ultimate sealant. I ride the Snoqualmie Pass 44mm and Rhonda has the wider Hatcher Pass at 48mm. I think I’d go even wider now that they make the 55mm Antelope Pass. The forks can handle them. The shimano chains were stripped and hot waxed using Silca’s melt wax system and I top them off on the road with their super secret drip on wax. It makes for less maintenance, however I could be persuaded to try a pinion gear box with gates carbon belt in the future. It’s all about N+1. Actually we love the comfort and ride of our Cutty’s. If you could only have N, this would be our ride.
