A hilly day and detours to Lunderzeel

Camping at de Gavers in Schenderbeke was interesting for us as it is a massive campground built around a man made lake. Cyclist/tenters were given a pitch in a shared field, which we liked as we met two couples from Holland who were riding the same route (but in the opposite direction). It has been some time since we have camped with other cyclists or tenters.

The ground is so wet from heavy rain over the summer - it's early evening and already our tent is wet from condensation.

The day started well with a pretty ride along the canal.

We stopped for coffee at this cafe - it reminded us of the Bars we frequented in Italy last year.

The humidity and dark skies unexpectedly opened in a heavy downpour just as we stopped for lunch. Very quickly the roads filled with water.

We ran across the road to find shelter under the awning of a business that was closed.

We see stately manors like this one in the countryside.

We needed groceries and visited this store that is similar to Costco at home. However, their samples were amazing - glass of wine, cup of coffee, meat, sandwiches...we enjoyed our visit.

Beautiful sunset over the lake at our campground.
