Week 31: restday in Bulawayo: visiting Mtshabezi Mission

Today Jake took us to see the Mtshabezi Mission. Jake and Nancy have worked their entire adult lives to build the Mtshabezi Mission as Brethren in Christ missionaries.

The Mission is located in the Gwanda District in Matabeleland South Province started in 1898. This is very impressive with a Ekuphileni Bible Institute (ekuphileni means “at the place of life”), primary and secondary schools, farm with cattle and growing vegetables, and hospital. We were graciously shown around by MT while Jake took care of business. We enjoyed having tea and bread with a few of the teachers. Then we are back on the road to Bulawayo.

The secondary school at Mtshabezi also teaches deaf and blind children. In this room a teacher translates the braille assignments students have done so the teachers can grade them.

The class was singing "Welcome to Zimbabwe" with the teacher leading the song that is written out on the blackboard. The singing is beautiful!
