Varanasi: sunrise on the Ganges

Early sunrise boat ride is a little calmer than last night at sunset, fewer boats and there is a mist rising above the water. Today on the Ganges River, we left ashes of our friend Dan Fox for Laura and family. April 1, 2016 would have been their 44th wedding anniversary. When in Africa, we sent some of his ashes on the Nile River, and in 2007 in Tibet on Pang La with the view of Mt. Everest and Himalaya Range. Other friends of Dan and Laura have also scattered his ashes on Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Jumbo, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Blanc and carried on Marathons by Anders the Biking Viking all around the world. http://bikingviking.net/

The other big outing for today was taking a bicycle rickshaw to find the Brown Bread Bakery Restaurant. This was painful to be watching a man carry us by pushing a bike, Rachel wanted to get out to help. But, we gave him a job by taking his rickshaw. We wandered down the narrow alleys of the market, asking along the way directions to the Bakery. The restaurant was good, but disappointing. Multiple kinds of cheese were advertised as well as salami. There was no salami, and the cheese was mozzarella. The chicken sandwiches were good, yet came on white not brown bread as expected from The Brown Bread Bakery.

Another visit to the ATM, Patrick worked on the bikes and a final few items washed, we are ready to set off again tomorrow. Three days cycling to the India-Nepal border.

Earlier we left some of our friend Dan Fox's ashes at the Nile River. This morning we set him off down the Ganges River.

Not exactly like rafting in Idaho, but Patrick gets to row a little on the Ganges.
