to Chiang Rai: ready for a restday

"I'm ready for a rest day" Patrick says as we are packing up. "I'm ready for a rest day" Rachel says when cycling past the Chiang Rai airport, 10km from town around noon-time.

Today was a nice ride. "I love GPS" Patrick says when checking often, the route takes us through smaller roads. We stop for a food break at a farmers shelter. Last evening we walked along the street with the night markets and picked up fried chicken and spring rolls. We opted for the spring rolls now.

We pass through the countryside with a variety of crops, bee hives and solar panels. Later we stop for a cold drink and eat the chicken. While resting, a couple from Germany on a 3 day supported bike ride show up. Their guide assures us the rest of the ride is flat.

Soon after this stop, the traffic increases and we turn onto a four Lane highway for the final push into town. We cycle to the landmark golden clock tower. Though not a very high tower, it is an impressive sight. We turn left then follow the signs to Baan Bun Guesthouse at the end of the alley.

We arrive around noon, shower, a few things laundered though a rule of the Guesthouse is "no laundry in room" and head out for lunch. We find "Hungry Wolfs" very near and share the BEST Greek salad ever, or should say since leaving home! And each of us have a beef hamburger. The owners are American and Australian. They even serve Deschutes Brewery Black Butte Porter and several Belgium brews as well.

It is Saturday and there is a large Saturday night market a couple of blocks down. We wander around, eat some snack food and buy two for one flipflops to replace, Patrick's shoes from Africa, Rachel's from India.

We enjoy a nice evening.

We found a nice guesthouse on booking.com. What sold it is the garden area and good rate.
