ten days in Ulaanbaatar: heads up

We arrived in UB on Thursday afternoon. We will be spending nine days here, in hindsight maybe too long, but we had to arrange a Vietnam visa and the flights got much more expensive on short notice. We made it to UB just in time before the winter.

In hindsight we probably should have just husseled and left sooner because it appears that because we are overstaying the 30 days without "registering" (even though we are allowed in the country for 90 days) this is going to cost us. More about that later.

In the mean time we will post some photos of our sightseeing and chores in UB, but don't expect exiting updates until we reach Vietnam on 10/23.

Downtown Ulaanbaatar. The city surprised us with nice sidewalks, lots of shops and a nice square.

A Turkish swerling Dervish in an Ulaanbaatar street. There is a strong friendship between Turkey and Mongolia. We have not yet figured out the reason.

Roof details on the Bogd Khan winter palace. The place is closed today, but with a camera fee of more than US$20 Patrick doubts we will be back.
