Hells Gate National Park: on a bike safari

"Did you hear the hippo?" Patrick says in the morning. Then we hear it again sounding very near the tent. Guess the electric fence is needed, if it's working.

We have breakfast of eggs and bacon, sausage and beans, toast and coffee. The camp has a wonderful resturant! Rachel washes the red african dust from yesterday's ride out of our clothes. Then we are off to explore.

Today we cycle in Hells Gate National Park. The bikes ride differently unloaded. We cycle very near to warthogs and zebras. Warthogs are fun to watch as they stop stare and then turn and run with their tails in the air. Patrick still kids Rachel from the first African Safari in 1994. "I can't believe I've seen a zebra in the wild" Rachel said then. This is such a gift to see these beautiful animals in their natural habitat.

Camping area at Carneley's camp on Lake Naivasha. There is an electric fence to keep the hippos out.

Hell's Gate NP doesn't have large predators and allows hiking or biking on the park roads.

We see mostly zebras and warthogs. A few gazelle, one giraffe and a couple of cape buffalo.
