Introduction: The where, the why and the who

A bicycle tour from May 2012, previously published on another site. And once again, many many thanks to the administrator and others who made it possible to re-post my journals.

***********************************************

On this trip we are repeating a portion of a tour along the Po that we took eleven years ago on our first bicycle trip together. We are seasoned cyclists, or perhaps by this time a little over-seasoned, and are now touring on e-bikes (our Koga Miyatas which we had converted to e-bikes last year). Our choice of routes is basically the same as it would be for any cyclist, the difference is that we can cope with hills and headwinds more easily and cover a few more kilometers than we would without. The greatest boon of traveling with e-support is that we are again enjoying cycling much more and not suffering from the negative frames of mind that happen when we are overtired.

Italy, Italy, why Italy? We live in Munich and Italy is close and yet foreign. It's easy to get to by train with our bikes and is a culture that will never cease to lure us - its food, language, architecture, flair. We chose this stretch along the Po for its abundance of beautiful towns and cities and May is a perfect time to open the cycling season.

Scott AndersonThanks for reposting this, Suzanne. We’re still rethinking our routing options for after we leave Austria and this will give us ideas.
