Day 5: Pombal to Abrantes

42° a bit hot for me

Haven’t decided not to cycle I still got out quite early because I was getting a lift in the end with Steve in the van to the destination point leaving at 7:45 am. The others who all decided to cycle at least some of the way left around 6:30 to 715 in order to get the coolest of the weather. In fact quite amazingly it was misty and about 17°. On the drive to Abrantes the mist quickly cleared and it was 31° by the time we arrived at 9:15.

with the van unloaded so that Steve had space in the back for any Bikes of those people who decided not to continue after the 50 KM point, are you able to check into my room by 930 and I’ve spent 90% of the day in an air-conditioned room in great comfort. I stuck my head outdoors at one point and 42 sounded like an accurate assessment of the heat level.

The time where we are spending the night is a lovely mediaeval hilltop town, we have zero motivation to guide exploring as the Hotel is at the top of the big hill and the heat level is so high that walking anywhere is going to be very unpleasant. So dinner is in the hotel, which based upon the service so far should be great.

tomorrow is not particularly far and not particularly hilly but the forecast is still 42° later in the day so we have a team meeting in a minute at which I’m sure the plan will be to start as early as possible in the morning. And be finished by lunchtime.
