Day 69 - Taft, Eastern Samar to General MacArthur, Eastern Samar

Day 4 - Samar Island Loop

114km of mostly smooth well-paved roads on gentle rolling hills from KM.895 Katrina Beach Resort, where I had breakfast, to KM.938 Borongan City for lunch, to KM.1007 St. Joseph's Parish Church, where I had dinner with biker-priest, Rev. Fr. Edgar Abucejo. I'll take the day off here tomorrow to wash my clothes and ride with Father Edgar to the southernmost tip of Samar Island in Barangay Sulangan, Guiuan on Thursday.

There are only three places in the Philippines where I've seen old Spanish churches with circular belfries namely: Tumauini, Isabela, Mexico, Pampanga and this one in Borongan City. But just like The Our Lady of the Nativity Church here, the Sta. Monica Church's old structure in my native Pampanga is long gone - only the Saint Matthias Parish Church in Tumauini has withstood the test of time and the elements.
