Day 5: Dandalup hut to Dwellingup
It has stopped raining and looked much clearer than I expected this morning. It hadn’t been very cold so my tent wasn’t wet.
Noah’s front tyre was half deflated again on a new tube but he fixed it and we rolled out about 9, back up the hill to the trail and continuing along the escarpment.
We soon found the others and soon found more trail obstacles brought down by the wind last night.
The wattles were out in force at an old disused mill.
There were also lots of puddles to navigate. I stayed at the back mostly today with Maggie and Jimmy. It was quite rough and steep in parts. It also kept threatening or actually raining then fining up.
The trail was a bit rough and pea gravelly in parts. We stopped for lunch on a small river crossing.
Some trail bikers came through before headed up out of the river to cross a main road. We decided to take a short cut across what looked like a useless loop to cross the Alcoa conveyor belt. There was a bit of traffic until the mine turn off
We turned off down another few nicely graded roads then entered a patch of amazing single track to come into Dwellingup.
Jimmy got a flat so we left him for dead (with Noah) and hooted into Dwellingup. There were some very enthusiastic lead blowers and gutter cleaning happening at the toilets so we went straight to the caravan park to find Hayley.
Maggie and I crashed Hayley’s cabin and did some washing of bodies and clothes. After hitting up the general store we reconvened at the pub for dinner, joined by another Bibbulmun walked Hayley had met previously. Sounds like she’s been having a more social time on the trail than us.
Today's ride: 41 km (25 miles)
Total: 205 km (127 miles)
