5km before the village of Cochano, is the turning for a new pass to Argentina "Paso Leon" On the Argentina side it's connected by a 40km ripio road down the Rio Manso valley to come out on Route 40, 60km north of El Bolson. On the Chile side there isn't a road. On the Lago Puelo crossing I met a Swiss cycle touring couple who had come from Argentina this way, who said the Chilean side was very tough going. It took them three days pushing their bikes, covering 10km per day. I also met another Swiss cyclist who used this crossing, lightly loaded on a good mountainbike. He too said it was very tough. It took him two days pushing 16km per day.
