To Saint Remy

We awoke to a fog-filled valley.  The day began with a fairly stiff climb to the west, which quickly lifted us above the fog into lovely blue skies and fine views.   Some brief notes on the day, since I've gotten behind:

  • We stopped for a rest at the market in Cunihat.
  • We then descended back down to the Dore valley at Courpiere.
  • We had an extremely quite ride along the Dore to Thiers, a rather dirty industrial town wedged into the canyon of a small stream.  When we arrived there, it began to rain.  We stopped at the information center there, where they made a reservation for us at Saint Remy, another 5 miles up north.

  • The hotel/restaurant was a very pretty, very quiet place isolated in the middle of the country.  We had a lovely view of the surrounding countryside from our room - this was probably the prettiest stay of the whole tour.  The room itself was quite inexpensive, but we had a traditional dinner at the restaurant below.
