Another fairly short day - not because of the weather this time, but because the next hotel is another 50km away, at the west end of the Gorges de l'Ardeche.

We had a pretty leisurely ride, biking north along the banks of the Rhone - swollen to near flood stage by the recent rains.  We stayed on quiet, pretty roads almost the whole distance - first through hvinards (this is a major wine-producing region -Chateauneuf-de-Pape for example seemed to have a dozen wine cellars that we passed today) which were still being harvested - and then later through fruit orchards - primarily apples, attractively espaliered in freestanding rows.  We reached Pont-Ste-Espirit early in the afternoon, leaving us enough time for a badly needed visit to the laundromat.
