Day 3: Worswick Hot Springs to Ketchum

Over Dollarhide Pass

We set off early as we are looking to get over Dollarhide Pass. As we continue riding, the bikepackers from yesterday catch up to us. They are from Colorado and are very impressed with Idaho. We are lucky to live in a state with beautiful scenery and many outdoor activities to participate in.

We make progress and about 3 miles from the top of the pass, Rachel has to continue on by pushing her bike. Patrick is able to ride, but then stops to allow Rachel to catch up which is hard on him with the weather heating up.

We reach the summit and there is a sign for the Smokey Bar at 19 miles back. The downhill is steep and also slow going. When the road flattens out, we make progress and finally on the outskirts of Ketchum we ride through Aspen forest.

And then there's the steep, steep downhill. Rachel would rather push her bike up a steep hill as braking is very hard for her with a loaded bike. We need to stop and filter water.

Susan and Rachel have been friends since the early 90s in Seattle. She is also an OR nurse moving to Hailey in 2000.

We call Susan to let her know we have arrived in Ketchum. She offers to pick us up. This is fine with us since it's a 12mi ride on a bike path that we will do when we leave Hailey.
