The Route
When I started planning this trip, I thought I would be going solo and expected to fly into Québec City as my start point. But when Jerry joined me, we decided to take Amtrak's Vermonter to St Albans and bike to Québec City via Sherbrooke. Then Lee joined in, and that worked out well, as he could only take two weeks, and that will leave him in Montréal (and he'll bike from there back to St Albans for a train ride home).
So the plan is to take Amtrak to St Albans, a twelve-hour ride but one that allows us to roll on our bikes, and from there, bike to Québec City, where we will take two days to enjoy the city. From there, it's down the St Lawrence Seaway to Montréal, where we will bid adieu to Lee.
From Montréal, we will head northwest on the P’tit Train du Nord Rail Trail to Mont Laurier. There seems to be adequate lodging on that route, but between there and Ottawa, not so many opportunities, so we have two courses laid out, one to the east and one to the west, and wherever we find lodging, that is the way we will go!
Of course, in Ottawa, I will take time to visit with my friend. And then we will head for Toronto and then Niagara, where Jerry will decide his course: home by rental car or on to Albany with me. I've thought about biking the Erie Canal for some time now, and I have friends in Vermont who could meet me in Albany, so biking solo for that leg is not an issue. And once in Albany, the Hudson River Valley beckons . . . with more friends in New York City to visit. Likewise, for the Jersey Shore and Lewes/Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Anyway, that's the plan . . .

I did the P'tit Train du Nord last year. I was camping, so I won't be much help with the lodging, except that I stayed in Maniwaki at Chateau Logue because of foul weather. I can recommend it. The room was huge and two of us had ample room to spread out our wet gear. From there we took the Véloroute des Draveurs, which was beautiful, but there were parts that were a slog on the soft surface, and I'm running 50mm tires. Still a far more pleasant option than the high speed traffic on the 105.
Looking forward to reading about your trip. Happy trails.
