Montréal Day Off

Today and tomorrow are "off" days to allow us to rest, regroup, and tour the city. Of course, this is good for me, as I really want to be sure my leg is up for the next "leg" of the trip, pun intended. And for Jerry and Lee, a well-needed rest after fighting headwinds all the way from Québec City. Well, I woke up feeling great and gave my leg a good workout today, walking over large swaths of the city, starting with breakfast . . . followed by the Golden Mile, Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Vieux-Montréal, La Banquise for poutine, followed by a walk around the Mont Royal neighborhood, and then back home . . . pictures tell all.

Breakfast at Chez Cora, right around the corner from where we are staying . . . and a likely stop on the way out of town Thursday!

Then, a hop on the Metro, which is very cool . . .

. . . as it has slanted moving walkways!

Then, the Golden Square Mile, which included a visit to Université McGill.

The main approach to the University led to the Department of Arts. Upon arriving, the skies opened up big time, the only time today.

While captured by the rain, we examined the overhead globe light fixture surrounded by figures of the zodiac.

Then a walk down Sherbrooke Street . . . just pictures, no captions.

Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal . . . we only toured the outside and did not go in. Next time!

We then took the Metro to Vieux-Montréal and wandered around a bit. I have been here before, and there isn't really much to it except this one street.

Then off to La Banquise for poutine, followed by a walk around the Le Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood . . .

Poutine, in all its permutations.

The Le Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood has very distinguishing housing stock that is sort of like piggyback condos, except the stairs are all exterior to the houses. Can you imagine owning one and climbing these stairs for the rest of your life? I need more info! Maybe it is here.

And finally, we couldn't help but notice the bicycle highway along many streets in Montréal that started even before rush hour . . . hordes of cyclists along Rue Rachel!
