Day Off in New York
Well, a day off in New York. I was mostly lazy. I didn't take a single picture — that's how lazy I was. And I mostly stuck to the neighborhood, having a breakfast "snack" at the Chelsea International Hostel, followed by a haircut at Chelsea Cuts (which was incredibly cheap for Manhattan), and then a real lunch at Dallas BBQ (I know, in NY of all places, but I had the urge).
Dinner both nights, last night and tonight, was at establishments both claiming to be the longest continuously operated tavern in New York City. Last night at Pete's Tavern, and tonight, with my old work buddy from way back when, at Old Town Bar and Restaurant. Both are decent establishments, and both are probably high on the tourist's list of places to visit.
My friend, Mike Feinberg, is the Director for Structures at MTA Metro-North Railroad . . . i.e., the Chief Structural Engineer. Being both bridge engineers, we have a lot in common, and I am fortunate to have maintained our friendship for more than 40 years. So we always visit when near each other (his mother still lives in the Washington area).
So, all in all, a good day. But then, early to bed. I have a ferry to catch in the morning!
