Off to Napier in the Hawke’s Bay

Today we drove for almost 4 hours from Ohakune to Hastings.  Once in Hastings we got on the bikes and road the short distance to Napier.  For the first time on the trip we had a bit of rain so we were pretty dirty once we arrived.  We found a hose to wash the bikes before our clothes and ourselves.  We have settled in for 3 nights in the lovely Masonic Art Deco Hotel in the heart of Napier.

During the drive today we went over a major set of hills affectionately referred to as Gentle Annie.  Again a touch of kiwi humour because the road was far from gentle.  The last BAC tour (rated 3C with a SAG support while ours is 2B with no SAG) they actually rode it.  There was over 6000ft of climbing and many grades about 15%.  I was very thankful to be in the van.  Not too many photos today but here are a few.

The clock tower in the centre of Hastings that was our start point for today.
