Touring Banks Peninsula: Last rest day

For our last day before we get back on the bike we toured the Banks Peninsula after some retail therapy at the Kathmandu store which is like MEC or REI. After shopping we started with a market in Christchurch followed by a second one in Lyttleton. We then traversed the Banks Peninsula to Birdlings beach and Akaroa. Akaroa is a small town with a beautiful harbour used by cruise ships ever since the earthquake of 2011. It is actually an opening to the Pacific Ocean that was once the centre of a volcano. If you look at the map you can picture where the volcano once was. Travelling the roads was not for the motion sick because they were very tortuous making travel slow.
