Rotorua to Taupo: Wet, windy and long

We left Rotorua a little early today trying to outrun the bad weather, we failed. We covered 111km with 4600ft of climbing but never over 9% for a change. The roads were lovely and quiet through more pastural farm country. We managed to ride 30km before the rain came but from that point on we were in the rain until 10km from Taupo when the sun appeared. Most of the day it was only 14C/57F so not warm when you are wet. There was also a considerable wind sometimes at our back but also as a cross or head wind. Patti and I were determined to finish on our bikes because once you are wet you might was well keep going. Along the way we passed a qeothermal plant which harnesses the geothermal activity in the region. We also had the good fortune to meet up with our friends for 1more dinner in Taupo.

NZ is well known for its honey production especially Manuka honey which is supposed to have medicinal properties. The sun came out just as we arrived here so we don't look wet but trust me we are soaked.
