Off to Matakana

Today was a bit of a slog to get to Matakana. The best you can average on NZ roads is about 80kph because there are very few true motorways and the main highways all go through small towns where the speed limit is only 50kph. Our drive should have taken about 7hrs with stops but it was 8hrs because of a serious accident about 12km from our final destination. We literally crawled for over an hour due to the accident but we made it so now we are sitting on the deck of our funky little cabin in the country having a glass of wine. The proprietor also sells steaks, veggies, eggs and bread for us to cook for ourselves which is great because we don't want to drive back the windy road to town.

Our car sitting the traffic jam. As bad as it was for us it was twice as bad for those trying to get back to Auckland.
