Casual Ride Day In and Around New Hope

Today was my last day at the New Hope Lodge. I checked out at noon and biked the 1/2 mile to the New Hope Star Diner, where I had breakfast and waited to hear from Happy. He arrived close to 3:00 PM, and we did a tour of New Hope, the canal towpath, and Lambertville before settling in with our misterb&b host for the evening!

A bridge replacement. I was surprised at the number of homes on the river side of the canal. This bridge will serve about three homes but also will probably clear the towpath, allowing users to pass beneath the bridge.

. . . and one of the (I'm sure) expensive — and probably historic — homes on the riverfront.

. . . and this one, telling us to walk our bicycles across the bridge. Some authority-type guy "yelled" at us about biking across on the roadway even though there is no sign prohibiting it! We were in no mood for this, so walked across.

Of course, that allowed us to stop and take pictures, this one looking downstream.

It turned out to be a nice, if not cool, day.

Not a "real" five and dime, but a nice look and a nice throwback to the old days.

In downtown Lambertville. Lambertville seems a bit more sedate than New Hope.

At the southern end of New Hope and one of the last locks located in town. The canal bed is overgrown with what looks to be cat-o'-nines (or cattails).

This is a great picture showing the canal being carried by a bridge over the Aquetong Creek.

This picture was not taken on our bike ride but taken on a walk I made the day before. I thought it was a very pretty stairway.
