Holzhausen

The heat wave is moderating

Last night we ate in the hotel, it was abuzz with business.  I counted 20 bikes that various diners had arrived on, this is clearly a very popular eating place in the district.  The food was very good, Ken had an enormous schnitzel and I had fish.  This very hot weather has seemed to have removed my appetite which is a good thing, I even might arrive back home a shadow of my former self

Once again we had a very hot night in our airless little room .  Breakfast wasn’t until 8am and we were down on the dot to a very nice but fairly modest breakfast.  Thank goodness the forecast today was for somewhat cooler temperatures only going up to just below 30,  The first part of our ride to Petting was easy.  We were following signs and once more delighted in the glorious countryside, Ken was even kept amused by the ancient little tractors he so likes.  It was a first for us as we were riding beside the lake into Waging am See, a perfectly flat and smooth path which went for around 5km.  We speed along mixing it with the campers on their daily rides.

Coffee was at Petting and we congratulated ourselves on our progress, we only had a bit more than 10km to go and it was feeling like a day off. we should have known better.

Arriving for supplies but what is really impressive they bring their bottles back for reuse not recyclng

The mountains are approaching

For the last two days accommodation has been a problem.  Tonight we were booked at a very fancy Spar Hotel, unfortunately there seemed to be no recognised routes to it from Petting but that wasn’t a problem I had my phone.  All started well and we went through lovely undulating country coming to a small river.  It just seemed that we turned and followed it but it wasn’t quite that simple.  We climbed up a well paved road until we were high above a dam.  We stopped for lunch.  Afterwards however was when the fun really started.  The track onwards was a real mountain bike track and it had our favourite loose gravel.  At glacial speed we made it with no mishaps and eventually emerged into Sound of Music country.

Arriving at the hotel we received such a warm reception, though looking at the other very well groomed guests I feel our dress  code is not quite right.  Our room is enormous with a big balcony so we can look out and imagine the Von Trapp family singing as they dance through the fields.  But first things first we collapsed on our beds and watched the 20th stage of the Tour de France.  Thunder has just started to roll around the mountains so there should be a massive drop in temperature

There was a car rally stopped at the hotel when we arrived Ken liked this 1300 GT Junior Alfa Romeo

Kathleen ClassenWasn’t the Tour exciting this year? We are just watching them arrive in Paris now...the nine hour time difference means we record it and watch in the morning. We rode part of stage 20 this year and I tried to memorize all the features for when we watched it on TV. That is the part that was cut out of course 🤣😂🤣. We are really enjoying your adventures and hope the weather continues to moderate.
