St Ledger: We meet up with Rosemary and John

Tonight we were going to stay with Rosemary and John whose barge was tied up at St Ledger. This was a fair distance away so we thought it was a good idea to get going early so after our elegant breakfast at Les Trois Pigeons we were away. It was straight on to the tow path and away we sped. This only lasted for about three kilometres and we were on the road for most of the rest of the day. This was good riding though as the traffic was very light and in fact there were no trucks for the whole day. We were following the canal all the way. The occupants of the boats that were tied up were still asleep - the locks aren't open until 9am.

After around 35km were were reaching the outskirts of Montseau les Mines and there was an open bar so a coffee was calling. The bar man was extremely busy as not only was he busy serving everyone but was multitasking. At 9.30 in the morning his customers were enjoying what I hope were their first glasses of wine. he made good coffee and at the same time was preparing the food for lunch. As usual in such places everyone was very welcoming and expressed the surprise that we were Les Allblacks

Montseau les Mines is a fairly big town and really is a nightmare to find your way through on a bike but today we had sucess and were soon back beside the canal. Arriving in St Ledger there as Petronella tied up in the Port de Plaisance It was so great to see the smiling faces of Rosemary and John so now we are happily aboard Petronella and this evening will go out to eat.

There are lots of disused factories
