Rochfort sur Neon

On the meteo it says there is an orange canacule. The canacule is going to continue until Thursday. This means we are leaving early while it is not too hot and having short days so we can get out of the worst of the heat by 1 or 2. Beascacon was too far for us to go today so we settled for Rochfort sur Neon a small medieval town with about a 250inhabitants but it just does happen to have a hotel and we had booked accomodation there.

It was straight along the Soane then we were soon on the Rhone-Rhine Canal, again easy flat riding. The interesting point of the ride was getting to Dole a fortified city set up above the canal and close to the Doubs River. It is very picturesque and the ancient part of the city is a steep climb. We were rewarded when we got there not only by the lovely old town but also by a coffee. The Cathedral that is set up there was rather a surprise as it is so light inside with white stone and sparkling stained glass windows. Back down to the canal we got a bit lost but this was soon sorted and the only problem was that I fell off my bike into a patch of stinging nettles - no damage at all just itchy.

It was just a short ride to Rochfort and we spotted a bar and thought we would have a cold drink. Others were having coffee but I waited to order until Ken came back 5minutes later from finding the hotel. Oh no the magic time of 1pm had arrived and they would take no more orders !! We had been given the code for the hotel so we were soon inside escaping the heat
