That road below was the start of the climbing. Below that is the Colorado

It was a long haul out of Radinin and over to Gore Pass, 27km took us 3.5 hours!

To add to the sense of hard-ness, the monsoon hit us twice with hail and snow. This did make the track slippery and muddy, and just that bit less fun!

We'd been planning to get to Steamboat Springs for the night but when the third hailstorm hit, with 60 km to go, I begged for a bail out and some pavement. I was very cold and didn't want to set up camp in that state of coldness. Karo pointed out we were cheating, and then we took the highway through Yampa to Oak Greek. It was slightly downhill, with a gentle headwind, but a much faster surface than if we'd held to the route.

We had a brief reviving stop at Penny's Diner in Yampa, then on to a motel in Oak Creek, a hot shower, and comfy beds. Oh, yes, and a hose to clean up the bikes.

My wildlife count has been dismal, but we saw a family of owIs at the motel, and Karo snapped this chipmunk - very cute.
