Frisco - Stephen's Bus
Breakfast at the motel was much better than expected: pod coffee, fruit, yoghurt, hard boiled eggs, and some truely scary looking baked / toastable products. We also had a nice chat with Ainslie from Alabama who was on a tour of the National Parks in Colorado with her husband.
That convo was followed by one with an older couple keen to explain US politics to us: the 60's was a great time in the US, Clinton destroyed the economy, the people moving east from California are ruining Colorado, there is a general moral decay taking place, and the best thing about USA that the rest of the world could emulate is being allowed to carry guns. We guess he is a MAGA guy but not a Trump supporter because he mentioned a willingness to participate in an armed revolt against the current administration, if required.
Interesting folk we are meeting!
Karo's replacement sleeping bag was waiting at REI in Dillon, unfortunately the fine tuning of how to carry the new kit without the old bag took some sorting. The planned Revelate Salty Roll interacted with the gear levers on her drop bars, so there were several iterations before a workable solution was found.
More bike paths took us out of Dillon and Silverthorne before a right turn onto Ute Pass road. Along the way a strange guy flagged us down and said there was water, snacks and camping at his place just after Horseshoe CG, where we were planning to stop for the night.
We climbed Ute Pass (slowly!) and then enjoyed the long downhill past the Molibdonim mine and Mill. Once more our strange friend appeared after collecting his partner from the airport and invited us to camp at his place.
Tums out Stephen is an avid Tour Divide dot watcher and loves interacting with cyclists of all speeds. His place offers sheltered camping, and an old bus to use if it's raining - which it was - so we moved in and pitched tents.

Karo's new kit and my nano puff blankie were put to the test, and deemed to be improvements.
