The route started out on single track, and after 10k turned onto a forest service road that ran all the way to Elk Pass at the head of the valley.

The single track was mostly nice, with some sections freshly cleared of fallen trees and overgrown grasses. I only had to lift Wally over one waist high tree and drag him under two others. Some of the downhills would have been horrible HAB going SoBo.

The road was not terribly interesting until we neared the head of the valley, and more mountains appeared, then WOW!

I had intended to camp at Upper Elk River, but decided to go on another 15k to Boulton Creek. I was surprised to discover that involved crossing Elk Pass, as I hadn't really considered when it was on the trail.

Elk Pass summit - welcome to Alberta!

Boulton Creek CG turned out to be full, so I back tracked to Sarrail CG, which is a "walk in, tents only" CG. This means cars are in a car park, and it made for a very quiet and calm camp. (No car alarms going off late at night)

As I registered for my site the Ranger advised there were 2 black bears and a grizzley in the area, and please use the bear bins. No argument from me!

Today's ride: 89 km (55 miles)
Total: 4,518 km (2,806 miles)
