Baynes Lake - Fernie
No lying around this morning, I was packed and peddling by 0645, choosing to take the highway to Fernie to avoid further damage to spokes / back wheel.
It was a ride of 2 parts: up to Elko, quiet and pleasant, after Elko, white knuckle and death defying in many places.
The road shoulder was wide, but not always smoothly paved and some times the concrete barrier narrowed the space to just wider than my handlebars.
The good and bad news was I could always hear the trucks approaching, just not tell how much they'd shifted left to give me space.
I survived and arrived in Fernie before 9, so first in the queue at the bike shop.
As I unclipped in the main street, outside the bagel shop, Ray and Kurt called out from the street side table. They gave me the run down on town before heading off for a mountain bike ride on the local trails.
I dropped my bags at the hostel, took Wally to the bike mechanic, and found breakfast at Mugshot - served by a lad from Auckland.
I filled in the rest of the day eating, getting a massage, and eating.
In the evening there was live music in the square and I'd planned to meet Ray and Kurt there for a food truck dinner, but it rained so I opted for an indoor option.
Today's ride: 48 km (30 miles)
Total: 4,356 km (2,705 miles)
