Basin - Helena

Our ride out of Basin followed the Boulder River and was very pretty. We'd decided to avoid the rocky, rooty single track of Lava Mountain, so we took the frontage road beside the I15 through to Clancy.

A lingering question from the previous night's conversation was Why are there so many dead cars sitting around in so many yards, clearly never to move again?
Basin was a great example with an impressive range of vehicles looking as though they came to Basin to die.
After Clancy, we climbed up to rejoin the main route. We both feel as though we have lost our climbing legs, although it may also be that there are now some quite steep sections of road that are just too much to ride, so it's back to HAB, just like in NM in our early days.
In Helena we both bought new back tires, new chain and chain ring. The guys at the Garage of the Great Divide bike shop did a great job, and for only $20, jumped our work to the front of the queue.
We stayed at the Budget Inn, which was cheap and fine, and ate sesame crusted tuna at the Brewshop. Another nicely rounded day on GDMBR.
Today's ride: 77 km (48 miles)
Total: 3,647 km (2,265 miles)
