More straight roads, good dirt surface.
We were making good progress until about 11.30 when the Westerlie got serious. Down to lowest gear and struggling to make forward movement. A bit less fun.
We were aiming to get water at Diagnus Well, but didn't find it. About this time the monsoon squalls began to appear on the horizon and the wind increased in strength.
Karo headed to Picket Lake to investigate the water situation, but it was dirty and stirred up by the wind. Next viable campsite was 15km away, upwind.
A short while after deciding to get back on the road and continue the crawl to the next water, 2 vehicles arrived. This was 1/3 of all the vehicles we had seen all day.
I stopped the first car and asked if he had any water to spare. He jumped out of the car and started handing me bottles of water. What a hero!
Turns out Trex and Troy do an annul adventure and this year was to Wyoming. They plan their route to interesting places, using back roads, and it sounds like they have a fun time exploring. Last night they were at an old gold mine, surrounded by snow.
Troy got out a 20l container of water and we filled my second bottle. We had a great chat about my adventure and theirs and it was a fun meeting (and they solved my water crisis!)
The wind stopped. There was some lightening. Fortunately the squalls moved away.
Next serendipitous event was coming across this flag at around 8 pm, just 3 km out of Atlantic City:
What a beautiful house! What luxurious bedding, and fluffy robes, and slippers, and they cobbled together a dinner for us!
After 12 hours on the road we had arrived in heaven!
Today's ride: 127 km (79 miles)
Total: 2,367 km (1,470 miles)
