Thomas RechFlat Rock was where the nearest WELS church was located that we went to while I was working at Great Lakes Steel in Detroit after graduating from college - this was back in 1970 - 1971 It's a name I had not heard for awhile ;-)

It was a great day to ride. The weather was sunny skies, highs in the mid-70’s, and little wind.  The best thing is the roads were very flat. Over 56 miles we climbed a total of 300 feet. That’s like climbing two over passes.   We left the hotel at 7:30 and we wanted to get breakfast at Tim Horton’s. We have never been to one. Unfortunately the dining room was closed. Across the street was a Michigan institution restaurant, Big Boy. The server was very nice and friendly and the food was good. It took longer than we would prefer but it was worth the delay. We got rolling around 8:30. Today was a difficult navigation day we had to get through the towns of Flat Rock, Monroe and Toledo. Ross did a great job as we rode good roads all day with little to no traffic and/or bike lanes.  We went at an easy pace all day, enjoying the ride.  About 1 pm we crossed into Ohio and into the town of Toledo. We found a nice place for lunch and spent time trying to figure out our route for the next few days.   The logistics for the next few days are such that we can either do short days (like 35 miles) or long days (68 miles). We haven’t quite decided which way we will go.

Tried to get breakfast here, dining room not open.

Jeanna & Kerry SmithIf you get to a Tim's, try the carrot cake muffin. You'll thank me!

Paul & Amy TeafordWow, almost 3,000 miles. I think it is so cool not only to share this ride with Janet & Ross but with your brother Doug. And to have a great welcoming stop with a lot of family in Michigan. I'm seeing a trend of lots of bike trails since you arrived in Minnesota. I hope this continues for you to the East! It is so good to know that there are bike trails everywhere in this country and they provide such a relief from cycling around cars & traffic. Amy & I have found a couple of new trails this summer, one on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon a few weeks ago. A day later we were going to ride another trail with some friends who live in Prescott Valley, AZ but a monsoon changed our plans to the LazyG Brewhouse in Prescott downtown with a brew named "Pedal Pounder"---so in the spirit of taking a bike ride that day, we had to have a pint. Keep the pictures coming and safe travels,
Paul & Amy Teaford
