The Cabot Trail from Sydney to Chetticamp

An all day drive around the northern tip of Cape Breton

Our group was spit into two vehicles but we stuck together for each stop. It's an extremely mountainous region that started with a ferry ride from Sydney across one of the many bays to the main section of Cape Breton.

Loading onto the ferry. Short ride. We didn't even get out of the car.

A few miles beyond the ferry crossing we came to one of the infamous bakeries. It had great views and some entertaining pieces outdoors:

Here's Hope in front of the bakery.

Cal was not feeling well and just slept in the van. Margaret Smith, one of the bikers, has her CDL and drove for a good part of this part of the trip.

The next stop a scenic overview:

Here’s Vicki enjoying the view.

After the beautiful drive we came to a Park Visitor Center. Across the road was a short hiking trail that led us to an even more spectacular view. The operative word is UP!

Phew! A good climb.

The scenic drive continued to a lookout at sea level where sometimes you see Northern Gannets and whales. We saw neither but had fun taking photos of each other taking photos.

John and Marlene - good friends. But the strangers also at this site thought they were a couple and offered to take their picture. They said "Sure!" and so this cute picture of John (my husband) and Marlene (his good friend)!

After a fairly long drive, lunch at a good restaurant at mid point, a view point from high, a view point from sea level, our final touring stop was a short walk through a bog.

This bog was a different experience from any other we’ve had on the trip. No big distance views but lots of little close ups.

Kim MartinHi Cindy and group,
I love following your blog as always. I am finally retired and now can spend more time commenting, so watch out. Looks like the rain and fires have subsided.
Your photos are great. Stay safe and enjoy Oh Canada!
Say hi to my buddies.
