A Mix of Old and New: Day 27 - Checking out Ulm

Great day walking around Ulm. It was Sunday so most businesses were closed, We kind of like it this way, nice and relaxed. Perfect for a rest day (except for the 786 steps to the top of the Cathedral!)

Song of the day

Take Me to the River ... Annie Lennox version of this Al Green Classic

As K and I were walking back from dinner this just fit. The walk along the Danube has the names of all the major towns and cities downstream of here all the way to the black sea, and their distance from the said sea, painted onto the walkway. We're on the River from here to the end .... (no vid ... just music)

A Mifa!! East German 'shopping bike'...K and I just read Tim Moore's very funny book recounting his ca 8,000 km trip along EV 13 - The Iron Curtain Trail - riding one of these! Tim is a British travel writer and he's written several bike related books, all of them preposterous in concept and quite hilarious. His Iron Curtain Trail book is called "The Cyclist Who Went Into The Cold". Read it. It's good. ANd it might inspire you to go for a long ride on wehatever sort of bike you have!

SO far, each Sunday in Germany has featured and band / orchestra playing in the town / city square. These guys were having a great time!

Morte bike nerd stuff - a Rohloff on a touring bike that was at least 15 years old - this hub probably has some stories to tell ... and a few more left in it!

It was difficult to get far enough away to get the entire Cathedral and spire in a single shot!

It dumped for about 20 minutes right at noon ... the Cathedral opened for tours at 12:30 so out timing was good - hung out at a café under and awning until it opened
