Sleeping in a sauna: Day 57 - Gravenhurst to Emily Provincial Park Ontario

Really good day of biking today. Back roads (mostly Muskoka road 6) with sometimes 40 minutes or more between cars.

Smoking hot though, temps were in the mid 30's all day.

It's cooled down to high 20's now, but the inside of the tent feels like a sauna.

Nice campground but Ontario is trying to bankrupt its citizens and discourage any tourist from coming here. Forty bucks for an unserviced site, and the camp store ran out of ice! Managed to run a laundry sink full of cold water to cool the 4 beer we picked up in Lindsay (along with another really good salad, bean, couscous and salmon dinner) so all was not lost.

Just a 3G phone connection so pics and more verbiage (or is that drivel?) tomorrow.

Full moon, steaming hot and by the water tomorrow at our friends Ann Marie and Rick.

We'll do our best to recreate Saigon by the bay of Quinte.

All for now, I'm going go to lie down and dream sweat dreams (pun intended)

Nice route down Elm Tree Road - one of the nicer country roads we went down today, also one of the busiest - seriously - had one semi delivering some road construction equipment and about 15 cars

Song of the day:

Southern Man, the Neil Young Classic covered by Merry Clayton

It was hot and humid today and felt like a Louisiana day, who better than Merry Clayton to give that feeling to this song. We were camping just a few km's north of Omenee where Neil Young grew up. These connections work for me.

Historical monument of the day:

The Kirkfield lift locks. Pretty impressive engineering and a key piece of the Trent Severn waterway

Leaving Gravenhurst nice and early. Trains still run through here but not the passenger variety. The old station is now a coffee shop, Gravenhurst is on the boarder of live bait and latte

Barns along Doe Lake Road, the start of county road 6 that we would ride for the first half of the day. They have put quilt patches some of the buildings trying to draw more people along these rural roads. Nice gesture but I don't know if it's working. There were sometimes close to an hour interval between the few vehicles we saw!

Part of the route 6 was along The Chisholm Trail. A dirt road that was actually really good riding. Helped by the very hot and dry weather. It was smoother than many old paved roads we were on.

Finding some shade for lunch.Big locks at Kirkfield on the Trent Severn waterway. It was smokin hot so we did the medeterainian thing and had a nap in the shade after lunch. Good move, beat some of the heat

Saw these Osprey feeding their three chicks. One of the parents had just flown in with a fish in its talons!
