Taking it easy in wine country: Savigny-en-veron

We feel ready to get on the road again after a quiet day at camp.
Our rear brake is not behaving itself - it seems noisy and is not engaging properly. Google Translate came in handy as we typed out a message for the owner of the campground to phone a bike shop in the area for us. It was a joy to go for a ride to the shop without any load on our bike - we discovered that we can still accelerate without all of the extra pounds on the bike and trailer. After visiting the shop, we are none the wiser about our bike, so we’ll carry on and try to find another shop down the road.
A first for us tonight - no more pasta!! We bought marinated shish kebabs and a tin of veggies (potatoes, carrots, green beans and white beans) - really good. Somehow Barry cooked it all in our tiny fry pan on our trangia. Dessert was a citron tarte and strawberry flan from the local patisserie and of course, a local bottle of wine. Wow!

Countryside around Savigny-en-Veron - massive fields of sunflowers.

We were told at the tourist office not to take the more difficult official route and instead took the trail on the north side of the river to Saumur and on to Montsoreau.

The village square reflecting some of its history - including using wine barrels as planters.

A sleepy town - Savigny-en-Veron.

Like so many villages, there are matching, lovely lamp posts throughout the town. Each area has distinctly different styles.
