Kalocsa to Baja, Hungary: Haircuts at Last!

We had anticipated a rainy day of riding today, but were pleased to wake up to sunshine.
We stayed an extra night so that Mary Ellen could also get a hair cut - it has been long overdue (since Dijon). We have enjoyed spending a bit of extra time in this area as it is renowned for its paprika production and decorative traditional painted pottery.
We are heading off to Baja and will soon be in Croatia.
The ride was exceptional today with fine weather, smooth and well signed routing and the friendliness of Hungarians along the way.
Upon arriving in Baja, we found a small Panzio, Panzio Kollibri, 10,000 florints including a hot breakfast.
A good day.

Mary Ellen had a wonderful experience getting her hair cut at this salon in Kalosca. Gyongyi (on the right in the photo) did an excellent job. She spoke no English but we communicated just fine.

This lady, a fellow patron at the salon, spoke a bit of English and acted as my interpreter.

While we ate our lunch, this farmer went by in his horse cart. A reminder that we are in rural Hungary.

As we have ridden by cemeteries, we always notice the care that families take in maintaining and bringing fresh flowers to the graves of their loved ones. It is also of interest to us,that in this area, all women wear scarves.

A glorious fall day. We were supposed to leave Kalosca yesterday (in the rain), but we stayed an extra night so that Mary Ellen could get a hair cut - a good decision.

Many honey bee hives along the route today - we saw containers converted as well as this wagon.

These guys were hard at work transporting some of the hives to the wagon.
