Inverness - The seventh step ... London to Edinburgh via Land's End and John o'Groats - CycleBlaze

Inverness

We had our first real taste of the dreaded midges this morning.  Not bad but enough to know we don't like them.

Our first stop, after about ten kays was to pick up food for elevenses and lunch at the village of Carbridge.

The old bridge at Carbridge.

Then it was a gentl climb up to the Slochd Summit.  Somewhere just above four hundred meters.  Take your pick.  On the way up we bumped into a Yorkshireman doing LEJOG slowly, like us.  He even took a few days off to spend at home in York when the weather was bad while he was passing through Gretna.  Amazingly, he was married in Gretna - one of the many thousands.

After cresting the summit is was a lovely downhill towards Inverness. We took a small detour to Tomatin to taste some whisky.  They weren't doing tours but they gave us a video show and a free glass of their twelve year old single malt.

A wee dram.

We are staying at Bught Caravan Park in Inverness.  There are a number of other cycle tourists here too.  Not great and not cheap but it will do for the night.

Today's ride: 55 km (34 miles)
Total: 2,232 km (1,386 miles)
