Today we passed the 800-mile point. Yaaayyy!

Summer season is still very busy here in Michigan. A very enjoyable ride along Lake Michigan in great weather today. The Little Traverse Wheelway is a nice, mostly shaded, paved bicycle trail that kept us off the very busy Highway 31.

We met cyclist, Christie, who was out riding for the day. She provided great local advice and, of course, lots of encouragement! She has bicycle toured in Europe and really longs to get back into it.

Thank you to Christie, who took this photo for us!

Once again today - just like yesterday's "Tunnel of Trees" - we hardly had to deal with that painful invention of Mr. Henry Ford. We discovered the Little Traverse Wheelway out of Harbor Springs, which is a shaded, paved bikeway all the way through Petoskey to Charlevoix. I love it when communities do things like that.

A great community route

So we leisurely pedaled its entire length, stopping often to take pictures and enjoy the lovely views of Lake Michigan. We finally rolled into Charlevoix at 4:00, and ate a late, late lunch at Simonsen's Cafe. My turkey panini had this cherry sauce on it that was to die for.

Then we got all set to pedal 18 more miles with a 6:00 departure to POSSIBLE lodging when we looked at each other and asked "What are we thinking? Let's stay here." So we did. Later we ate at Whitney's Oyster Bar - food appears to be a common theme - and called it a night.
