Day 7: North Bend to Cle Elum
Today was a bit slower and rougher as we were riding on gravel rail trails. Out of North Bend we climbed a gradual 3,000 feet to the Snoqualmie tunnel. We stopped before the 2.1 mile tunnel to add a layer of warmth and turn on lights. The animal highlights were many rabbits in the morning and a grizzly bear that stepped out of the woods and onto the trail about 50 yards ahead of us. We stopped, he turned to look at us, and then walked back into the woods. After waiting a few minutes we continued on at a slightly accelerated pace. The lush green of the PNW coastal forests gave way to drier forests of Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir, and lots of trail dust. Tonight we rode into town for Mexican food and will be staying in a caboose at a B&B at the old Cle Elum railyard.
Today's ride: 57 miles (92 km)
Total: 293 miles (472 km)
