Day 51: Cedar Rapids to Tipton

More thunderstorms overnight albeit with less wind, so we were glad to have another Warmshowers stay.  Thanks Jeff and Donna for your hospitality and tips riding to Davenport.  This morning we waited out ongoing morning rain at our Warmshowers and took the time to catch up on journaling and bike maintenance. We stopped in at the local bike shop (Goldfinch Cyclery) and they gave us priority because we were on tour. They were super friendly, great mechanics and got us rolling quickly. I was mostly interested in having the shifter looked at with the previous malfunction. In the end, I had the chain and rear cassette replaced, as well as adjusting the shifter. Scott M. Had his derailleurs and rear brakes adjusted since he swapped chains in Omaha.

Since it was close to lunch, we headed to a local NewBo market for a bite to eat, and the rain let up for the day. We continued on railtrails for ~25 miles (Cedar Vallet Trail and Hoover Trail) before heading east towards Davenport. New prairie flowed (tall bellflowers and ironweed) added to the mix of brown-eyed Susan’s and bee balm.  The afternoon was more corn and soybean fields. We ended the half day of riding in Tipton and made camp at the fairgrounds. After setting up tents we headed into town for an excellent Mexican dinner.
