Day 50: Cedar Falls to Cedar Rapids

First, a big thank you to our Warmshowers hosts,  Laura & Randy. It was great to start out with a hearty breakfast for a high mileage day. Are big thunderstorm with high winds rolled through overnight, so it was wonderful to be indoors!
We made our way out of town through the complex series of bike paths ( some closed by the flooding) and followed the swollen Cedar River. Since we were close, we stopped by the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum. An awesome display of the innovations and mergers that created the tractor giant.  Great displays!!!

As we got to the edge of Waterloo, the trail became littered with debris and downed trees from the storm last night. Much of the way it was an obstacle course dodging the debris, but there were a few dozen trees across the trail as we moved south. It was fairly slow going as we lifted the bikes over trees and cut our way through it a couple of places. The Cedar Valley Nature Trail was a great surface, actually recent replaced for a good stretch. We got past the down trees and picked up the pace for the last 30 miles.

I forgot to get a picture, but we stopped at a bar in La Porte City for tacos Tuesday and we found a place in the afternoon to get some ice cream. It was a longer day with the museum stop, downed trees in and mileage, so we arrived around 6:30 PM at our Warmshowers host.
