Day 43: Schuyler to Lincoln

Today started again with overcast skies as we left the campground, but everything was wet with dew. Shortly after crossing the Platte River (wide and very shallow), we turned onto a series of very hilly dirt country roads and eventually ended in Brainard on the Oak Creek rail trail. The trail was very nice and it was nice to ride among the trees. There were a few small towns along the way that we stopped for breaks and lunch. Highways thereafter, we came by Husker stadium, which when full becomes the 3rd largest town in Nebraska.  Arriving in old town Lincoln, we met up with Scott M’s friend Patti at the Salt Mine City Brewing Co. We enjoyed a few beers and a snack and then made our way to our Warmshowers host. Janine and Steve made us a wonderful vegetarian dinner and we enjoyed great conversations about cycling and our respective travels around the world.
