Day 36: Chadron Rest Day
On our rest day we slept in a bit and had slow start to the morning. After some bike maintenance, we headed out to explore the Museum of the Fur Trade. It was about 5 miles out of town and an easy ride without gear. It was a great museum with many displays and artifacts on the earliest European visitors to the region and the impact of the fur trade on all societies. It also had an amazing collection of flintlock rifles - I highly recommend it if you’re ever passing through Chadron. We grabbed some food truck BBQ on the way back to town - brisket on mac & cheese with fresh onions and BBQ sauce. It was not difficult to eat. Of course we needed something to wash it down, so we stopped at a local bar for a beer. From there, Scott M. found a walk-in barber shop and I headed to Walmart to get a new power bank because mine stopped taking a charge. Later in the afternoon, Scott M. visited another museum on the Chadron State College campus dedicated to Mari Sandoz, an author of many books on homesteading the high plains and sandhills of Nebraska….. For dinner we took our Warmshowers host out for Thai food as a thank you for letting us stay two nights.
Today's ride: 8 miles (13 km)
Total: 1,741 miles (2,802 km)
