Day 29: Cody to Lovell

We started with an early breakfast at Annie’s again. We were on flat roads along the irrigation projects which are part of the Shoshone River Reclamation efforts all day with a peak temperature in the afternoon of 98 degrees. We did spend a couple of hours in the morning at the Heart Mountain Relocation Center. This was one of ten internment (concentration) camps set up to hold Japanese-Americans from the West Coast after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Most of the 14,000 were held there for three years, despite 2/3rds being American citizens. Very little of the camp remains, but there is a memorial site and a museum. A sad and often overlooked piece of our history.   We arrived in Lovell in the mid afternoon and setup camp at the nice town campsite. It was very hot, but dry, and the shade was welcomed.  Dinner was at a local cafe in town and we picked up supplies at the local grocery store. So, don’t be surprised if the pictures are fewer and less interesting over the next two weeks. Basically, we are riding through a part of the country where there’s a whole lot of nothing.
