Day 27: Rex Hale Campground to Cody
Today started out with another flat tire. This time, I (Scott G) made a concerted effort to identify the tire position on the rim in relation to the hole in the inner tube. Sure enough, there was a small staple size wire causing the issue all along. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to remove it, so I placed an adhesive patch over it. I plan to pick up a replacement tire in Cody incase it continues to cause problems. We ate breakfast, broke camp and started down along the Shoshone River towards Cody. Traveling along the north side of the Buffalo Bill Reservoir we arrived at the Buffalo Bill Dam and spent time at the visitors center. The dam was completed in 1910 after many construction challenges and at the time, was the tallest in the world at 285 feet. As cyclists, we were given special access to ride the original road along the river so we could avoid the narrow tunnels with vehicle traffic. Very steep down so glad the brakes worked!!! From the dam, it was a short ride to Cody. At the edge of town we stopped and toured the Old Trail Town. It’s a series of original 1800’s buildings moved from their original locations, and it was interesting to see the start of the communities in the early West expansion. We had a late lunch (pizza & beer) at Millstone Brewery, then we moved on to our lodging for the next two nights - The Irma Hotel. It was founded by Buffalo Bill, and hosted many dignitaries to his WildWest shows. Still full from lunch, we had a light dinner of beer and Rocky Mountain Oysters in the Silver Saddle Saloon. Rest day tomorrow!
Today's ride: 37 miles (60 km)
Total: 1,257 miles (2,023 km)
