Day 20: Butte to Lewis & Clark Carverns Campground

Today started with a breakfast prepared by Nick - overnight crockpot oatmeal, raisins, bananas, walnuts, honey, and milk. It was the perfect start for our 800’ climb over the Continental Divide thru Pipestem Pass at 6k+ feet. Speaking of the Divide, we were surprised to find no signs at the crossing point on the Continental Divide hiking trail.  It was a great roll down to the valley to Whitehall, MT.   Just when you think the scenery can’t get any better, it does. Taking Montana 2 along the Jefferson River provided incredible views and atmosphere as the base of the mountains rose up out of the river to 1000 ft on both sides. The campsite for the night was at the Lewis & Clark Carverns State Park. Dinner was canned salmon and cilantro lime ready rice with chocolate pudding for dessert.
